DWI, what to do?
October 8, 2008I am frequently asked by family and friends what one should do if stopped by police for driving while intoxicated (DWI), commonly referred to as drunk driving. First and foremost, do not take any of the tests. You have the right to remain silent and can exercise that right. If you are arrested, you will be taken to jail and can bond out using a bail bond company or by paying the bond yourself. Bond is typically low if this is the first time you’ve been arrested. Next, call a lawyer. It is important, particularly with a DWI to get in touch with a good, experienced criminal defense attorney within 14 days. This is not intended to substitute for legal advice or representation. You should consult with an attorney for legal advice on your case.
